* Nelson Allen, Sr. came to Vancouver from Kansas in 1907 and established the Ryan- Allen Lumber Company with business partner, C.W. Ryan. They operated sawmills in Brush Prairie, Heisson, and Stevenson, among other areas and also maintained a retail lumber yard in Vancouver for a number of years. Allen also served as mayor of Vancouver in 1924- 1925.
