McDaniels Family Cemetery

Lazy R Ranch, Monahans

James William McDaniel was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Somervell County and died May 22 in Odessa, after a lengthy illness. His wife of 46 years, Helen Ann, was with him.

J.W. spent his childhood in Wickett and graduated from Monahans High School in 1957. He continued his education at North Texas State University (now known as the University of North Texas) and graduated in 1964. J.W. was a local rancher for forty years. He owned and operated the Lazy R Ranch east of Monahans. He also owned several other businesses over the years, including the Monahans Feed Store.

He is predeceased by his father, W. O. "Buster" McDaniel; and his sister, Ollie Dell Miller.

J.W. is survived by his wife, Helen Ann; three daughters and their husbands, Helen and Don Jackson of Houston; Lyn and Lanny Ice of Monahans; and Leslie McDaniel and Sean Glaspell of Justin; and four grandchildren, Griffin, Rawley, Noel and Helen Ice. Pearl McDaniel, J.W.'s mother, lives in Monahans also.

There will be a visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Family Funeral Services.

A graveside service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at the family cemetery, near the Lazy R. Ranch ranchhouse.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lazy R Ranch Scholarship Fund, in care of West Texas State Bank.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey.
