Petition of James Joyce for letters of administration on the estate
of James L. Chivers who died, without any will, owning land, negroes, and
other property. Filed 22 December 1862.
Bond of James Joyce, adm'r; $4000. Sureties: L. H. Chivers and Hiram Granberry. Approved at February term 1863. Inventory and appraisal made 12 March 1863 by Eli G. Harry [Harris], Hiram Granberry, and S. McWiley. Included: Black Boy Eleck, 9 years old; Black girl Mahala, 4 or 5 years old; one tract land containing 126 acres patented to J. L. Chivers Aug. 13, 1859. Filed March term 1859. Buyers at sale held April 11, 1863 [torn into two parts]:
