Historical Marker Application

aka Morgan Hood Pioneer Cemetery

I imagine that this is the old cemetery which has a Texas historical marker entitled Morgan Hood Survey Pioneer Cemetery. I obtained the marker for it years ago, but was able to learn little or nothing about it. Some members of my family owned and lived in the Gano cabin until long after World War II. They told me about this old cemetery, which they said was "south of the house."

I remember at the time thinking the Gano family might have started it, and went so far as to do a little research on the family to see if I could find any family members they lost while they were living on the place.

Sue Hurst Lipscomb, who administers cemetery records for the Grapevine Cemetery, also had family that owned the property where the Gano cabin once stood at one time. She recalls the small family cemetery on the property and thinks that it is still there, but you need a key to get through a locked gate. There is only one grave visible, surrounded by stones, but no headstone. It is located off State Highway 121 just past the Grapevine Lake dam.
