Fort Stockton, Texas - Hunting coyotes by airplane is the lucrative sport of Roy Baumgardner,
who works for Texas ranchmen bothered by the pests.
The plane usually is used in connection with a ground drive against coyotes, the aviator
pursuing the animals and shooting them with a shotgun after they have been jumped by hunters on the ground.
A base price is charged by Baumgardner whether coyotes are killed or not, with an additional
amount for each animal killed. The price averages about $10 to $15 per coyote.
Baumgardner has contracts with ranchmen that do not begin until serveral months in the future
because of the demand for his services.
