Liquor Dealer Held for Wife Murder in 1930
Liquor Dealer Held for Wife Murder in 1930 Fort Stockton, April * - Wilbur Garton, Corpus Christi liquor dealer, was to be given an examining trail here today on charges of murdering his former wife, Mrs. Leta Belle Garton whose earnings from her own liquor business, officers said, had been used chiefly to keep Garton out of jail. Mrs. Garton's death had mystified West Texas officers for the last six years, since her body was found floating in the Pecos river 35 miles north of here, on Feb. 2, 1930. The body of Joyce Glen Roberts, her 10-year-old daughter by a former marriage, was found at the same time. A Mexican fishing from a bridge discovered the bodies. Physicians said that Mrs. Garton and her daughter had been strangled and beaten to death. |
