Football Write-Ups
(If I have a photo with the wrong name, please contact me!)
Edward Douglass, Center Ed is a man who can play center, guard, or tackle, and do it well. He was always in there fighting, and the opposition never got too tough for him. Ed has one more year of football. |
Granville Moore, Tackle Granny is a player that says little, but substitutes action for words. Ask his opponents and you will find that he was feared by all ball carriers. Granville is a Senior and will not be back next year. |
Orville Gilkerson, Halfback Jake had the misfortune this year to be injured early in the season. This did not keep him from playing, however. His interference running in the Alpine game will long be remembered by his teammates. Jake is lost by graduation. |
Thomas Bobo, Guard Tom served his first year on the squad, but went at it like a veteran. He always got his man, and was never heard to complain about anything. Tom has another year of football. |
Paul Valentine, Tackle Rudy is a man who belieeves in doing things. His opponents usually discover that after the first down. He was always ready to do his part in tackles and taking his man out. Great things are expected of Rudy next year. |
Bernard Rooney, Fullback
Rooney has served three years on the squad, and has natural football ability. The fact that the letter men elected him to lead the team next year speaks well for his ability. Rooney should be one of the best fullback in the district next year. |
Wright Reeves, Halfback Rat started the season as end, but was later shifted to halfback. He played a great game at end, and always threw his opponents for a loss. Rat is a good ground gainer and should be a broken field runner of good ability next year. |
Victor Douglass, Halfback Vic is a player who is hard to beat. He is a consistent ground gainer and when a few yards are needed, you can count on Vic to make them. His defensive game at Midland was outstanding. Vic has two more years of football and great things are expected from him. |
Garland Casebier, End Casey is another fellow who believes in actions, not words. He is one of the best defensive ends in the district, if not the best. Casey has another year, and we expect him to deal misery to his opponents. |
Charles Rollins, End Chile was another man playing his first year of football. He did not come out until a call was issued for more men, and then made first team. Chile is small in size, but not in playing ability, and they never get too big for him to handle. He has another year. |
Myrle Storey, Guard Storey also was green, as far as football playing goes. Although he did not letter, he reported for every practice and gained a lot of football knowledge. We expect Storey to win a regular position next year. |
J. B. Blalock, Guard J. B. did not come out for football until the season was almost over. He was industrious and worked hard, and will probably make the first team next season. |
Clifford Odom, Quarterback Captain Odom is envied by all for his broken field running and consistent ground gaining. He is the second four letter man to graduate from F. S. H. S. We hate very much to lose Odom. |
Frank McSpedden, Center Speedy is one of the best defensive centers in the district. He could be depended upon to take the right man out at the right time. His position will be hard to fill next year. |
