Martin County's First Census
The first census taken after Martin County was established in 1876 was
1880, but Martin County was not actually organized until 1884. This census information was
taken by Hamilton Foster, Enumerator, Supervisor's District No.3, Enumeration District No.
202.
Before the railroad, there were not many settlers, and after the
railroad, the first colonists were Carmelite Monks, but with their settlement, others soon
followed.
