Dickson Cemetery

Cemetery was established with the burial of John Sanders Dickson on July 16, 1853. The cemetery is located on the James O. Dickson Survey, Abstract No. 338, Denton County, Texas. For many years the cemetery remained in a state of despair. In July 1989 a deed was secured and cleanup began on the cemetery. It is now fenced and a deed to the cemetery land and right-of-way to the cemetery is on file. The cemetery is still classified as abandoned, but a Dickson Cemetery Association has been formed and members keep the cemetery mowed and in good repair. Buried at this cemetery is the first elected Judge of Denton County, Texas - William Hugh Dickson.

From Denton, Texas, take US 380 to FR 720. South on FR 720 for 3.6 miles - (there is a curve in road that goes east) do not take curve - go straight onto Hill Lane for 0.6 miles to Dickson Lane. Go west on Dickson Lane for 0.1 miles. On south side of road is a metal cattle gate. Go through gate for approximately 250 yards and cemetery is in middle of woods.
