Documentation:
* 'I remember your great grandmother [Mary Pate Roberts] and your grandfather and grandmother Pike [Betty Roberts & Jim Pike] well. I went to school with Addie, Rubye and Howard at Erwin school in 1915-16-17. Grover McCalister and Pauline Upton were the teachers.
'I heard my mother tell, the first time Jim Pike was ever seen in this country, he came to Erwin on a bicycle. The bicycle was all dolled up in sunflowers and he had some pinned on himself. He was of interest to all, especially the single ladies, as he was tall, dark and very handsome.'
