* John Garland Brown, his family and his father Garland Brown moved from Buckingham County, Virginia in 1845 to Marshall County, Mississippi. In the fall of 1850 he moved to the property called Thorn Hill in the Frost Thorn Survey of northeastern Rusk County, Texas which became Gregg County in 1873.
