Documentation:
* John D. Chisholm is well documented as an early settler of Eastern Tennessee. He was a participant of events that
led to the Blount Conspiracy. After 1800 he joined the Cherokee and took several Cherokee wives; his only Cherokee son
identified by records is Chief Thomas Chisholm and is believed to the son of Patsy Holmes. His children listed here are
by a white woman Patsy or Patience Massengill who divorced him and married Willam Brent and moved her family to
Feliciana Parish in present day Louisiana. Her probate papers in Feliciana clearly name all her children with the
exception of James Chisholm who appears as her son in Tennessee records. James is believed to have married a Cherokee
woman and lived with the tribe in Northern Georgia. He is mentioned by the Moravians in their records at Spring Place.
John D. Chisholm's information is provide in part from depositions he gave in London regarding the Blount Conspiracy and
also by his granddaughter Narcissa Chisholm Owens in her Memoirs. Ignatius Chisholm is listed here as he is known to
have had three sets of children by three Cherokee woman. Dennis and Titus are both believed to have come into the
Cherokee Nation.
