Documentation:
These names and dates are from a handwritten note left by great grandmother Edith Christine BETZ Carter, daughter- in-law of #6 child Peter Wesley CARTER and Emily HOLLENBECK Carter, whom she lived with when first married to my great grandfather, Arthur Claude CARTER, son of Peter and Emily. The bottom of the list of names states the following,
"The picture (family) made in 1873, all of us went in wagon to Des Moines, Ia, invaded Bugbee Store. Mr. & Mrs. Carter were born & raised in Tenn.(lived 15 miles west of Des Moines) and left there during the Civil War and came to Iowa. Said he didn't want to be a "Rebel", nor live among the "Rebels". Five of the children are married at time picture was taken.
