Documentation:
* Mary Holmes actually married three men, the second being Thomas Duley, son of an
area Rev. War hero. Thomas and Mary evidently did not get on well together and Thomas
left, going up to Kentucky to live with his grandparents and other family. While he was
gone, Mary consulted local authorities and the JP, her uncle Thomas Galphin, gave her
permission to remarry. She "married Benjamin Bowers, had one child and was pregnant with
the second when Duley returned. Papers concerning these happenings are in Edgefield
Courthouse records. Families are found in Census records of Edgefield and Barnwell
counties.
