Second Street, Lykens, PA: "My husband Ralph and his brother Eugene worked a bootleg mine together. They were working together one day when the mine began to cave in. A large timber fell across Eugene's legs, trapping him. He begged his younger brother, Ralph to cut off his legs, but Ralph could not do it. The mine continued to cave-in, and Eugene was killed. Ralph managed to escape. At the time of his death, Eugene had five children, the youngest a six month old baby. Eugene's widow, Mary lived in the home beside Eugene's parents, Clifford and Annie PINKERTON."
