Biographical sketch of Burton Leroy PINKERTON, D.D.S. w/ photo: "BURTON LEROY PINKERTON, D.D.S. - Few men in Ashland,
Pennsylvania, had so many friends as Dr. Burton L. PINKERTON, who had been engaged in the practice of dentistry there
for many years before his death, August 22, 1922. He was the son of George and Mary (TREIBLY) PINKERTON, both deceased,
the elder Mr. PINKERTON having been a teacher in the public schools. Burton Leroy PINKERTON was born February 1, 1876,
at Wiconisco, Dauphin County. As a boy his education was limited and the professional training that came later was the
result of his own enterprise and effort. In 1891, he moved to Fountain Springs, where he learned the cigar maker's trade
with his brother-in-law, C. Alex Seitzinger and was engaged in that occupation for a number of years. He was, however
ambitious for larger things and eight years later, having saved sufficient money for the venture, he entered the dental
school of the University of Pennsylvania from which he graduated in 1900 with the degree of Doctor of Dental Science. A
short time after his graduation he settled in Ashland and soon built up a substantial practice. Dr. PINKERTON's genial
disposition made him a great favorite with the people of Ashland and vicinity. Fraternally he was affiliated with the
several Ashland branches of the Masonic Order and a member of the Rajah Temple AncienT Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic
Shrine of Reading. He was a director of the Odd Fellows Temple Association and of the Miners and Laborere Saving Fund
Association and a member of the Methodist Church. Dr. PINKERTON married, October 22, 1902, Clara I. Griffiths, daughter
of Peter and Ruth (LANE) GRIFFITHS of Girardville, where he father was for many years engaged in the hardware Business.
Her brother, Lieutenant GordOn E. GRIFFITHS, served for two years overseas as a gunner and bomber in the 9th Aerial
Squad during the World War. Dr. and Mrs. PINKERTON had two children: Burton L., now a student at Dickinson College; and
Spencer Griffiths, who died in infancy. Dr. PINKERTON had some months before his death, a stroke of paralysis and from
that time on was in a critical condition until the end came, August 22, 1922."
21. Letter dated June 16, 1950 to Burton L. PINKERTON (Jr.) Maple Avenue, Hatfield, Pennsylvania from B.E.
PINKERTON, 423 W. 32nd Street,Houston, Texas: "Dear Burt L: .."My brother Frank E. PINKERTON who was some twenty years
older than myself wrote quite a biography of himself when he was seventy-nine years of age and from it I get most of my
ancestry, but it does not go back far enough. Frank wrote that our great grandfather was born in Halifax, Penn.,, but
died before he was born in December 1852. He was a carpenter and in the grain business. He did not know the first name
of the great grandfather nor of his great grandmother. On the father's side, the grandfather was George PINKERTON, also
born in Halifax, but of Scotch descent. The grandmother was a Margaret Wright of Welch descent. She was the mother of
nine children and a midwife as well. He was a carpenter and a school teacher before the public schools were established.
I do not remember him although he died at 78 years and grandmother at 80. but I have been told I was quite a favorite
with him since I was born March 28, 1872, and he was a frequent babysitter for me. As I remember the family of my aunts
and uncles of whom I knew but one, there were Kate PINKERTON BAILY, Emma PINKERTON MILEY, and the mother of Mr.
Reidler's father. I had quite a correspondence with him but he died before we could get all of our common information
classified. And also, Frank PINKERTON died and I was left with no ancestral data. My father was born in Halifax, Penn.,
and married Fannie All Singer and to the union were born Maggie, Sadie, Frank, Jennie, Alice, Edward and Bertram. Sadie
died very young and Maggie married and had two children (SHEPHERDS) before I was born. Frank SHEPHERD was my nephew six
months before I was born and to me it was some trial to be called "Uncle" by one so much older. ..."

Notes:
* The George A. PINKERTON Family Bible was passed down from George A. PINKERTON to his son, Dr. Burton Leroy
PINKERTON, then to his son, Burton L. PINKERTON, Jr., then to his first cousin, Betty PINKERTON HENDRICKS, then to her
brother, Harold LeRoy PINKERTON, Sr. who has the five original front pages containing G.A. PINKERTON's hand written
entries into the Family Bible for each of his eight children.
* Harold L. PINKERTON Genealogy Source Notebook "Burton Le Roy PINKERTON". Harold LeRoy PINKERTON, Sr. is the
great-grandson of George A. PINKERTON.
* The inspiration for PINKERTON Genealogy by Harold L. PINKERTON, Sr. and his daughter, Sharon P. WAYLAND
came from communication with Paul W. PINKERTON (1915-1990) a distant cousin, and his daughter Helen P. RYDELL, who in
1984-1990 worked on mapping the various branches of PINKERTON cousins descendants of Hugh PINKERTON (1767-1852).
* The Federal Census data utilized in compiling this Family Group Sheet was culled from the Heritage Quest
On-line database.
