Notes:
*George Boyer Brumbaugh worked on his father's farm (the old Brumbaugh homestead), and attended public school
at the "Bowers school"; for 1 term went to a subscription school at Marklesburg to work up some branches not taught in
the public school. He began to teach in 1849 and taught one term at the "Summers schoolhouse", one term at the "Mill
schoolhouse", 2 terms at the "Corner schoolhouse" and 2 terms and the "Peightel schoolhouse".
*He was elected to the ministry of the G.B.B. Church in 1863, while he lived on a farm on the banks of the
Raystown branch of the Juniata River.
*At the request of his brother, Andrew Boelus Brumbaugh, M.D., he moved to Marklesburg in 1865, and engaged
in the general mercantile business in connection with his ministry. He was well known in his community and in the church
at large and was an eloquent and forcible speaker. He was distinguished from his cousin, George Brumbaugh, another
minister in the James Creek Congregation of the Church of the Brethren, as "talking George" which phrase indicates his
natural eloquence and pulpit power.
*He was appointed by the court to make the survey of the original village of Marklesburg, and later made the
survey for the extension of the boundaries of this borough; was borough engineer for many years; was a member of the
first council and also of many subsequent councils. He served as burgess of the borough, and also as a member of its
school board. Hee was postmaster of James Creek, Huntingdon County, Pa. for 24 years, and at one time owned more acres
of land than any other resident of Penn Twp. In his later years he retired from mercantile business and returned to his
early love - the farm- living near the borough limits of Marklesburg.
