Notes:
* After George's death, Margaret took their 3 children to visit with friends in border
Virginia county. Visiting friendly Indians turned unfriendly, killed our little Mary WARD
with a tomahawk, killed the father and son of the cabin, took the mother prisoneer.
Margaret pushed David WARD and George WARD out of a back window but not before Grandfather
David WARD was wounded in the elbow with a tomahawk. Margaret ran all night with the boys,
crossing a body of water several times to escape the chasing Indians. The mother who was
taken captive later escaped into the white community. Margaret WARD was of German
extraction, very large and strong. 1907 ELLEMAN & WARD.
