* BARRY COUNTY MICHIGAN 1985 page 88 "PETER LEMEL EDMONDS" Peter Lemel Edmonds first purchased land in Barry
County in 1853, having moved from Wayne County, Ohio. Peter's lineage has been extensively documented, beginning with
Edman Edmans born in Great Britain, married 29 August 1718 Simsbury, CT, Hannah Adams. Hannah was born 27 March 1688 to
John Adams and Abigail Pinney, whose parents.were Humphrey Pinney and Mary Hull, whose parents were George Hull and
Thomason Mitchell.
Edman and Hannah were parents of seven children; their second son, Edmond, born 14 May 1721, married 5 July

married Joseph Rhoads; Catherine, married Daniel Warner, Jr.; Thankful; Oliver; Martha; Mary; Rebecca; and Peter.
Peter Edmonds, born 27 July or 1 August 1760 Dutchess County, New York, died 30 July 1854 Wooster, Wayne
County, Ohio, married three times. He first married 17 April 1786 Northampton County to Phoebe Davis, born September
1756, daughter of Henry and Sarah Davis. They had two children: David, married Elizabeth Knaus; and, Nathaniel, married
Mary Smith. Peter married (2) 30 January 1790/1 Northampton County, Elizabeth Warner, born 6 April 1769 to Daniel Warner

and Mary Tryon. They had 12 children: Peter Lemel, Rosanne, Samuel, Elizabeth, Phoebe, Millie Pernelia, John Wesley,
Levi, Matthew, Andrew C., Louisa, and Mary. The oldest son, Peter Lemel, born 6 April 1818, Wayne County, Ohio, died 29
August 1896, married 23 March 1840, Martha Bechtel. This Martha Bechtel was the daughter of Martha Anstrew Seaton
Bechtel, third wife of Peter Edmonds; thus, Martha Bechtel was married to her step-father's grandson from his first
marriage.
Peter Lemel and Martha Edmonds' son, Alexander Q., was born 12 August 1842 in Wayne County, Ohio, died 27
November 1899 Barry County, married 2 January 1865 Francelia Maria Chase, born 20 May 1848 to Daniel Saunders Chase and

ALEX I. EDMONDS [middle initial is wrong should be "Q"]
This house was built in 1866 in Baltimore Twp., Barry County Michigan. It was built by Alex I. Edmonds. He
had served in the Michigan Cavalry in the Civil War and had sent home his earnings to his father (Peter Lemuel Edmonds).
His father bought forty acres of woods which had to be cleared enough to build the house.
Log house built in 1886 by Alex I. Edmonds
On January 2, 1866 Alex was married to Francelia M. Chase and they lived with parents until November when
they moved into their own house which lasted until 1884 when a brick house was built to take its place.
The five children of Alex were born in the log cabin. Frank on the extreme right, a maid next, then Ernest.
Near the father was Carey, and sitting with his wife holding her two-year-old, Lucy with another daughter, Martha
standing beside her.
In 1884 the log house was torn down to make way for the brick house. Alex spent his entire life, after his
marriage, on this farm and passed away November 1899.
Nathaniel F. EDMONDS
* Date of burial 1931 Lot 20 Grave 4, I have visited the grave.
* This story was told to me by several persons, including his daughter-in-law Lulu Belle (Hoffman) Edmonds.
One day Nathaniel was playing "mumbly-peg" [a game that young men played with a knife that involves flipping
it off various parts of the body so that it would stick in the ground or floor by it's point] on the bridge over the
creek [This person never found out which bridge this happened on], when a man in a buggy came by and demanded that they
"clear off and let him pass and that they surely had better things to do!" After the man passed, Nathaniel turned to his
two friends and asked "Who was that and who does he think he is?" To which his friends replied "Why that's "Deacon
French" and he's the Deacon at the Church." They then returned to their game and in the course of conversation it was
told to Nathaniel that "Deacon French" had some real pretty daughters, and they challenged Nathaniel to go ask one of
them to the barn dance that weekend. Nathaniel went up to the front to the front door and knocked. "Deacon French" came
to the door and asked "What do you want?" Nathaniel replied "I'm here to ask your daughter to the dance." 'Deacon
French' asked "Which one?" Nathaniel said "The prettiest one." (The only name that his friends had named was Laura)
'Deacon French' asked "What's her name?" And Nathaniel said Laura. 'Deacon French' said "That's the one" and called
Laura to the door. They went to the dance and the rest is history.
* His will was not filed until 1 October 1963 and closed 5 Nov 1965 copy on microfilm at the Barry County
Probate Court in Hastings, Barry County, Michigan on reel number 174 file number 14,065.

* From E-mail sent by Anita Hyatt Davis: Dan'l,
I know you like first hand information! How about information from a first hand observer? I've got it! I have
been corresponding with Dorothy Edmonds, last surviving dau/o Lemuel Peter. She was a good friend of my mother's and so
I have tried to keep in touch with her. She just turned 97 and lives in Florida, and after all of these years, has
finally decided to talk Family History. I just received a letter this morning in which she answered a few of my
questions. I quote:
"The only help I can offer with any authenticity is regarding Uncle Sam. He fathered all those children but
left his wife and moved to Idaho where he operated a shop--I believe a "tin shop." In 1926 he returned to Michigan and
lived with us for a year. Finally his daughter Orpha took him from us but left him soon at the then Barry Co. Poor Farm,
where he later died and is buried in the pauper cemetery lot. Orpha said he deserted them and she felt nothing for him.
The boys had no contact with him. His only wife was Eva Rickles whom he married, divorced and remarried and abandoned
twice. He was smaller than Dad, milk-mannered and unobtrusive, never indulging in conversation."
I'm so glad that Dorothy has started to remember her past and tell it.
By the way, I did look up Eva Boor on the Internet and found several, most being born earlier or later than
ours would have been, and in other countries. I found one in the Social Security death record that was interesting, but
most likely had nothing to do with us: Eva Boor, b. 14 Sep 1891, d. June 1975, S.S. 377-24-6435, Zip 48084, Troy,
Oakland, Michigan. I still wonder about where that name came from originally, and in light of the above, info, I think I
will not even list her at all. I still wonder if Eva Rickles (or is it officially Rickle) might have married a Boor
during the time Samuel was divorced from her?.?.
Let me know how you feel about this above.
