* Christian and Justina (KONRAD) DALLMAN emigrated from Paris, Bessarabia, which is now modern day Veselyy Kut, Odessa Oblast, Ukraine, in 1902. See Black Sea Germans for history. They boarded the ship Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse in Bremen, Germany and arrived at the port of New York. Sailing with them were their six children Rossalia, Johannes, Martha, Emma, Alexander, and Christlieb. Their seventh child and first child to be born on American soil was Bertha. She was born in Logan County, North Dakota in 1903. In 1905, my great grandfather Edward was born. Five years later in 1910 Rudolph was born in Logan County, North Dakota. My name is Jennifer SKELLENGER nee BERESFORD. My father is Darrell BERESFORD. My grandfather is Merle BERESFORD, son of Orville Harris BERESFORD (born Edward DALLMAN). Both my father and grandfather were only children. My grandfather passed when I was very young and I have limited contact with my father. For the longest time my paternal line ended with Orville. Recently I came across Orville's obituary which listed Christian and Justina as his parents and listed surviving brothers Chris and Rudolph DALLMAN, and surviving sister Mrs. Dan Labrenz. I then came across John's (brother) obituary which listed "Eddie from Iowa" as a surviving brother. I also had taken a Ancestry DNA test which matched me with DALLMAN and TRIEBWASSER relatives. Orville's death index lists mother's maiden name as Conrad [Konrad]. Finally, I have personal handwritten letters from my great grandmother Alice (Orville's wife) to her brother Leo that state Orville had siblings that no one [in her family] knew about in North Dakota. It is a mystery how, when (though the when we can narrow down through records), and why he left his family in North Dakota, changed his name, and ended up in Iowa. I have a public tree on Ancestry called "German Iowa" and found a majority of records there.
