* Birth and death dates for Charles and Ruhamer are provided by their tombstones, which are located at the McAnally Graveyard in the Meadows area of Stokes County; in 2005 on the farm of Gareth Meadows.
* Family oral history identifies Ruhamer's name. The origin of her surname of "Houston" is unclear and there is much confusion in family histories as to where the Houston family intermarried into the McAnally; however, her tombstone is marked "R.H.". Their children Jesse and Ruhamer are also buried here; Ruhamer was also known as "Mercy" and it is said the name "Ruhamer" means "Mercy" in either Hebrew or Gaelic, though this has not been substantiated.
