*No Tree Has Branches That Fight Amongst Themselves: Mitchell Family History 1700 to
Present by Helen Mitchell Daniels, Columbus, Ohio; October 1980.
Note: In 1871 George J and Almira Lawrence Mitchell bought 640 acres of land in Shawnee
County, Kansas and moved there with family. The deed to this land designates it as: "All
of Section seven, Township ten, South of Range fifteen East, Shawnee County, Kansas (with
other lands)." Topeka Land Association. Original owners of this land were the United
States and the Pottawatomie indians who sold it, for one dollar per acre to the Santa Fe
Railroad in 1869. Thomas Ewing Jr. (brother-in-law), bought the land and in turn sold it
to George J. Mitchell. The homestead has been owned by Mitchell's and is now owned by 5th
generation, Robert Lee Mitchell.
