Obituary (Madison (MO) Times, Apr. 13, 1911)-
Mrs. Armstead Brown- The old must die and the young may die. Veralda Jane Brown was born September 28, 1837 in Missouri. She died at her home southwest of Shelbina, March 30, 1911, aged 73 years, 6 months and 28 days. In 1855 she was united in marriage to Armstead Brown and to this union 9 children were born. Five have passed into the beyond to be with the mother on the other side. Four remain: Carl, Major, Urb and Effie, besides several grandchildren. She joined the Baptist church at Hickory Grove in Monroe county about 1850. At the time of her death she was a member at Fairview. Sister Brown was a woman who stayed at home and looked after the affairs of her family. For the last two years her health had not permitted her to be very active. Not withstanding, knowing that sooner or later the end would come, it was hard to bear. But remember those things in her life that were good. On last Friday morning in the presence of a number of friends, Rev. R. A. Jones of New London conducted the service, after which the body was conveyed to the Alexander burying grounds. Thus the race was run, the complete circle was made. It was near where she first saw the light. To the aged husband who has lived there for many years, we say, "Look to God". To these children and grandchildren we would say, "Look to God in all things". R. A. Jones.
