Father of niece was a Stokes John, was a contract surgeon in the Confederate Army and also graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. William Henry White was graduated from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA. He served as a contract surgeon for the Union Army during the Civil War. Papers from Delaware Archives, Picture of the two brothers in their uniforms in my possession from original tintype. He was made Honorary Mayor by the greatful citizens of Wilmington, Delaware and presented with a surgical instrument case engraved with a silver plaque. This case was last given to Edward White's (brother of William Henry White, MD) granddaughter in Salisbury, Maryland and loaned to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. It was returned to a family member and is in her possession as of May, 2002.
