John Andrew LEFFLER:
13 FEB 1846 is the marriage record for John Leffler and Elizabeth Vertmiller in Washington, D.C. This is the earliest record found for John "Leffler".
* Source: Index to marriage records from District court records located at Washington, DC as extracted from the district courthouse.
* The 1850 Federal Census finds John Lefler, age 42, born in Germany, Occupation is LABORER, real estate value is $400, living in Rockville, Montgomery, Maryland with his wife Lisetta Lefler, age 24 (18 years younger than her husband, John), born in Germany, Sons John Lefler, age 3, and Henry Lefler, age 2 both born in Maryland.
* The 1860 Federal Census finds John Leffler, age 52, born in Germany, living in District 4, Montgomery County, Maryland. The post office is "Rockville". His Occupation is a FARMER, real estate value is $500, value of personal estate is $270. He lives with his wife, Elizabeth, age 33, born in Germany. His first-born son, John, previously listed in the 1850 Federal Census, is not noted in the 1860 Fed. Census, and therefore, this author concludes the boy must have died after 1850 and before 1851 when his Sister, Mary was born. His children, sons, (3 year old John listed in the 1850 Census is no longer listed in the 1860 Census) Henry age 11, John age 6 (this must be a second son, named John), William, age 4, and daughter Mary, age 9, live in the home. As noted on this 1860 Fed. Census, all of the children were born in Maryland.
* The 1870 Federal Census finds John Lafler, age 58, living in District 4, Montgomery county, Maryland, post office "Brighton", with his wife Mary E. age 44, his Sons, Henry, 21, and John, 16, and William 14, and Daughters Mary E., 19, and Emma 8 years old. His occupation is a FARMER. The Real Estate value is $400. Personal Estate value is $200. John was born in "Deutschland". His Wife, Mary E. was born in Holland. Henry was born in Wash. All other children were born in MD.
* John Andrew Loefler is not listed in the 1880 Census. Therefore it seems logical to conclude that he died sometime between the date of the 1870 Census (6/8/1870) and the date of the 1880 Census (6/2/1880). The cause of death is unknown as of this writing (6/15/2009).

George LEFFLER
* Church records from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rockville, Maryland, list George Lefler as a child of John Lefler and Elizabeth Vortmuhler, his wife. He was born on 15 March 1858, and was baptized on 22 APR 1858. His Baptismal Sponsor was Caroline Fleck. This records was obtained from a copy found at the Montgomery County Maryland Historical Society 19 June 2009.
* The 1860 U.S. Federal Census, District 4, Montgomery, Maryland; Roll M653_478; Page: 260; Image: 261; dwelling house 560; lines 29-34 shows the John Leffler family that includes: Elizabeth, and children Henry, Mary, John, and William. George is not listed in the 1860 Census. This leaves this author, at this time, to wonder if George died sometime between 1858 and 1860? More research is needed.
