* John Monroe KELLEY was known as Reverend J.M. Kelley. He was an evangelist and was not assigned to one particular congregation. He walked for miles each week, guest preaching at a different country church each time. His children remember walking with him. He would take one child and they would walk the twenty or so miles on Saturday, stay the night with a local family, preach on Sunday, and walk back home to Quitman.
* Lois KELLEY VAIL remembers accompanying her father on one of these occasions, walking 21 miles without shoes.
