Notes:
* The Chauvins originated in France, came to Canada, and during the dispersion, some went to Kiskaskia, IL, and finally into Louisiana. Many of the Chauvins settled in the Cajun region of the southern parishes of Louisiana and maintained their religion and culture. The family listed above came to Ft. Miro (now Monroe) during Spanish rule. They are on the records of the fort as helping to hew the trees used to build the fort, and in helping to hunt for game to support those living at the fort. The Chauvins who stayed in Ouachita (and Union and Jackson parishes) converted to protestantism and anglicized their names. Chauvin became Shovan. There are Shovan's in Jackson Parish and Caddo Parish who are descendants of this family.
