*    Book at the Tyler Library, The Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 2, No. 3, April 1964, with the name of Chidester Benson, 17 years old, enlisted in Revolutionary service at Chesterfield, Virginia after 1 of September 1780.
*    In Volume 2, No. 2, his name was again found, saying he was 17 years old, born Caroline County, VA - and giving his place of residence as Stafford County, VA -adjacent to Caroline County.
*    On Apr 5, 2013, I orderd his military service record, pension application and bounty land application from NARA.
*    One Chichester Benson, who may possibly be "our" ancestor is documented in Surry Co.
*    NC State Census of 1784-1787 on Page 146, with head of family consisting of one male 21-to 60 years old, and one female (so this appears to me that they were probably newly married and had no children by those dates, until Judith was born on August 27, 1787.
*    Since Betsy, the daughter of Chichester Benson, married Elias Wood in Shelby Co. KY on Feb. 6, 1805, Chichester was probably in the county by at least 1803, if indeed Betsy is the oldest and married first. Other records document that Chichester Benson arrived in Shelby County at least before August Term of Court 1807 when he was paid for "crying the sale for the Estate of Elizabeth Butler." This data transcribed from Film 33970, part 2, 259,250: Shelby Co. Wills, page 172, Volume 2, Indexed. Copied by George E. Kimble in Florida from microfilmed records in Salt Lake City, Utah. He stated that lack of time prevented an exhaustive study of the available records, but, however, that this data should provide a basis for further study. Part of his notes follow: Will of Chichester Benson, dated 26 September 1825, recorded August Term 1826, in Will Book No. 7, Pages 168/170. Names wife, Mary; children - Judy Mitchell, wife of Robert Mitchell; George Benson, Zachariah Benson, Sally Snelling, wife of George Snelling; Rosey Mitchell; Ann Benson; grandchildren -John, Polly, Thompson and Jonathan Mitchell, children of Joseph Mitchell, deceased. (Joseph was first married to Judith Benson).
