NOTES: In 1857 William B Nicholson came to America from England with his mother Ann (Kitchen) Nicholson and his brothers and sisters. He was 6 years old. They crossed the Atlantic on The Ship Margaret Tyson (Liverpool to New York). William's father was not listed on the passenger list , I assume he traveled before or after Ann and the children. They first settled in Clinton, Illinois where William's brother Thomas enlisted in the 20th Illinois Infantry on May 1860 and was mortally wounded in the battle of Fredericks Town in 1861. In 1866 the family moved to Miami County, Kansas where they settled on a farm. From there William B. went to Colorado in 1868, where he remained a year and then went to New Mexico, and from there to Texas, returning to Miami County after an absence of eighteen months. In 1872, he removed to Reno County, where he located upon a claim, being the second settler in the county south of the Ninnescah River. He was married in Reno County, October 8,1876, to Permelia Alice Rea, a native of Indiana. In 1880 , he moved to Kingman County and engaged in the hotel business, becoming proprietor of the Laclede Hotel. My Grandfather James Patten Nicholson was born in Kingman on October 2, 1883. Around 1888 they moved to Snowmass, Colorado where they built the Nicholson Ranch. William B died on October 15, 1927 and is buried in the Red Butte Cemetery, Pitken, Aspen, Colorado along with his wife Permelia who died on September 14, 1929.
