George and Nancy listed on the 1850-60 Cass County, Mo census. Listed on
the 1870 and 1880 Linn County, Kansas Census. George W. enrolled in the
Kansas 6th calvery,during the Civil War, on June 27, 1861. On July 27,
1864, George was captured near Fort Smith, Arkansas and confined in Camp Ford,
near Tyler, Texas until May 30, 1865. (Information taken from muster rolls.)
According to his granddaughter (who is still living) the prisoners were given
pumpkin seeds to eat and Nancy had to move the family when the fighting came too
close to their
home in Linn County, Kansas. She did not return home until George came
home. Exact birth and death dates from tombstones. Exact marriage
