Documentation: Copies of newspaper obituaries were sent to me by a
librarian at the Great Bend library.
The Bakers were early settlers of Barton Co, KS. They first settled
on
the NW quarter of section 8 Liberty Twp in 1878. After a number of years
of residence in this county they removed to Arkansas, returning to Great
Bend in 1901.
They had left PA for IN in 1846 and moved to KS from IN in 1878.
Frederick and Mary are buried in Great Bend Cemetery.
The Baker family came to Henry Co, IN from Lancaster, PA in 1849,
settling in the vicinity of New Lisbon and New Castle (Henry Co), where
John BAKER, uncle of Frederick Baker, had come when the land was first
"opened" for settlement in 1820.
Another quote: KS obituaries show that the Bakers moved to Henry Co, IN
in 1846 and then to Liberty Twp, Barton Co, KS in 1876.
They possibly owned property in Stratford Co, KS, which is the next
county south of Barton Co.
The Bakers were in AZ in 1888 and then back to Barton Co, KS in 1900.
