Notes:
1539: King Francis I of France ordered the general keeping of baptismal and burial registers. The marriage registers were later introduced in 1579.
1685-1787: Desert Period; No Protestant records were kept during this period, due to revocation of the Edit of Nantes, which made the Protestant church illegal in France.
