* Obituary of Charles Freemont Reynolds
Charles Freemont Reynolds, son of Benjamin and Susan Reynolds, was born in West Lebanon, Indiana, September
26, 1856 and died April 23, 1916, aged 59 years, 8 months and 27 days.
He was one of eight brothers, five of whom, with one sister survives him.
He grew up in a very humble home and shared only in those things that fall to the lot of the common people,
with whom he lived and worked all his life. He received but a meager education in the common schools and early set to
work in self support.
As a lad he came from Vermilion county, Illinois to Lawrence county in 1868 and with the exception of a few
years spent in Kansas, has since lived in this community.
He was converted and joined the Methodist Protestant Church in Chauncey under the ministry of his brother A.
L. Reynolds in 1876 and ha been a member of the church ever since. During this time, he has been a earnest worker in the
church and Sunday school. For many years he ha been a teacher in the Sunday school and for the last eight years has
served as a class leader. He has ever been faithful in fulfilling these duties and gave them up only when disease laid
him upon the bed of affliction. By this faithful work he has been able to contribute much to the welfare and comfort of
others.
Mr. Reynolds was married to Jane Rodrick on December 24, 1876. To this union was born nine children, eight
sons and one daughter, all of whom are living except one boy, Amesbury L., who died at the age of four years.
The surviving children are; William Henry of Arlington, Kansas, John Benjamin of Topeka, Kansas, George
Olivier of Chauncey, Anna Mae of Shawnee, Colorado, Charles Floyd of Cedar Point Iowa, Guy Mathew of Clinton, Iowa, Hugh
of Cedar Point, Iowa, and Albert G. of Chauncey. With these children, the wife and seven grandchildren, together with
many other relatives and friends survive to mourn their loss. Mr. Reynolds was a member of the Modern Woodsman Lodge of
Chauncey, the members of which were faithful in their assistance during his illness. The closing year of his useful life
has been a most severe and trying experience of great suffering and disappointment, but he endured it with a great
degree of courage and patience. He has been testimony to the Grace of God, his faith in Christ as his savior and his
hope of everlasting life.
Internment was in the Chauncey cemetery.
* Obituary of Nancy Jane Reynolds
Nancy Jane Rodrick was born in Clark co., Ohio October 1, 1856, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Armitage
Rodrick. She was one of a large family of children, all of whom has preceded her to that undiscovered country, except
two brothers and one sister. She was married to Charles F. Reynolds on Dec. 24, 1856 and he proceeded in death April 23,
1916. To this union with Mr. Reynolds was born nine children, all of which are living except one son who died at the age
of four. The others left are; Will of Topeka, Kansas, John of Port Huron, Mich., George of Chauncey, Mae of Arkansas
City, Kansas, Floyd and Hugh of Cedar Point Iowa, Guy of Clermont, Illinois, and Albert of the U. S. Navy now stationed
at Los Angles, California, all of whom mourn the loss of a loving and attentive Mother.
She was converted at an early age, as a mere child and at the time of death and for years prior to that time,
was a member of the Chauncey M. P. church. Her life has been a testament to her devotion. The world is better for her
having lived on it. The family she leaves behind her is one testimonial to the fact, and the sorrowing friends another.
She was interred in the Chauncey cemetery beside her husband and son who had gone before.
