Lucy Jane MARSHALL
BIOGRAPHY: Lucy Jane Marshall/Middleham/Cressy
BIOGRAPHY: Lucy Jane Marshall was born October 20, 1830, [1, a] in Bradford New Hampshire, [b] the oldest of what
would become a family of six children. When she was 5 or 6, her parents moved to the frontier in Illinois. [c] Her
father farmed on about 480 acres of land just south of the Rock River in Colona township of Henry County and neighboring
Coal Valley township of Rock Island County. [d] Lucy's father died when she was about 15. About two years later, on
January 5, 1848 Lucy married William H. Middleham in Henry County Illinois. [e] Lucy and William had two children,
Robert S. born in 1849 and Annie E. born in 1851, both in Illinois. [f] Sometime prior to 1869 Lucy and William were
divorced, as each of them remarried in that year. Lucy married Willis E. Cressy, who had recently moved to Henry County
from New Hampshire, and was a cousin on her mother's side.
BIOGRAPHY: Willis and Lucy Jane had two children, Warren Plummer, born January 5, 1871 in Rock Island Illinois, and
Jessie L. in 1873. [g] In that same year the family moved to Chico, California where Willis taught school. [2] A
biography of Willis Cressy publishing in 1903 says that he moved his family to Oregon in 1881. [2] However, the 1880
census of Independence, Polk, Oregon shows Lucy Jane Cressy as head of house with her son Warren P, while the 1880
census of Chico, Butte, California has Willis Cressy living with William F Middlehane and his wife Annie. At this time
Lucy Jane's younger sister Isabelle was living in Independence with her husband Warren Cressy, Willis's brother, and
daughters Stella (or Estella) and Mabel. [h] According to Willis's biography, [2] Lucy Jane died in 1886 in Oregon.
