Documentation:
Gwinnett County census, marriage and cemetery records;
* Estate settlement of John and Hester Peppers in Walton Co., Ga probate records;
* Civil War service records;
* Gwinnett county historical records where available (courthouse burned);
* Various records from Campbell, Fayette, Douglas counties in Georgia and Randolph and Cleburne in Alabama;
* Information from other family members.

Notes:
  * Nathan's birthplace of Tennessee reflects information contained in the 1850 Gwinnett County census, but is questionable.
  * Nathan and Elizabeth Fowler are said to be buried in the Fowler-Gresham Cemetery in Gwinnett County, but the cemetery has been paved over.
  * There are graves for a Hester and James Johnson in the Johnson cemetery in Gwinnett County, but we are not 100% sure if this is our Hester, although birth dates match Hester and James Johnson in the 1870 Gwinnett census.
  * John Fowler is said to be buried at Shadnor Baptist Church Cemetery in South Fulton (formerly Campbell) County, but no grave has been found. All his children moved to Cleburne Co., AL.
  * Reuben Fowler is buried at Appalachee Baptist Church Cemetery in Gwinnett County. Most of his children remained in that area of Georgia.
  * Zephania(h) Fowler is buried somewhere in Tennessee where he died during the Civil War with a fatal case of measles. He enlisted as a Private in Capt. Looney's Co., Lawton's Cavalry (Co. I, 2nd Regt., Ga. Volunteer Cavalry). Zeph moved to Fayette Co. by 1860. Many of his descendants stayed in the southwest Atlanta area and are buried in South Fulton, Douglas and Fayette Counties. His widow remarried to Green B. (Greenberry) McFalls.
  * Kelly Fowler died in Montgomery, Alabama, during the Civil War. He gave his county of residence as Jackson County. His service record says he was a courier with Co. H, 43rd Ga. Inf. Regt. His burial place is unknown.
  * Martha Ann Fowler Kimbrell and her husband moved to Randolph Co., AL and then back to Gwinnett.
  * Nathan's second wife is thought to be his son's mother-in-law (Sarah Johnson, mother of Frances Ann Johnson), who lived next door to Nathan and Elizabeth in 1850 Gwinnett.
  * Neither Nathan nor Elizabeth appear in the 1860 Gwinnett census, although all children except Zephaniah, Marion, Matilda and Martha Ann were still there.
