* At the age of 25 David BATES was elected to the General Assembly of Virginia. Served in that branch of government until he and his brothers moved to Georgia. Once in Wilkes County Georgia he was elected to serve in the Georgia State Legislature where he served for many years. At one time was President Pro-Tem of Georgia's Legislature.
