Notes:
* Henry Munson DEAN served as a volunteer surgeon during the Civil War. He married in
Philadelphia after the War and settled in Muscatine. There is a biography in the Muscatine
Historical Soc. Library. All three of his sons were physicians with practices in Iowa. Lee
Wallace DEAN served as Dean of the ISU Medical College, 1912 to 1928, at which time he
resigned and took the position of chief of Otolaryngology at Washington University Medical
School in St. Louis. A painting of him was presented to the University in Iowa City in
1941 and was hung at that time in the Student Union.
