General Notes: Husband - John Griffith LONDON
==========================================================================================
Jack London is one of Amrica's most beloved authors and one of its most important; he
was one of the few early writers who actually earned money from his writings during his
lifetime.
In 1894, Jack spent 34 days in the Erie County Penitentiary at Buffalo, New York. It
was a turning point in his life and he called the things he saw there unprintable and
undescribable. The experience made him determined to get an education.
While at Berkeley, Jack London wrote to his biological father. William Chaney
responded that he could not be Jack's father and that Flora had slandered him. Jack was
devastated by the rejection, quit school and went to the Klondike.
He died on his beloved ranch of uremia, possibly complicated by the drugs he was
taking for kidney stones and his ashes are buried there under a rock. There exists common
gossip that he killed himself but there is no evidence to support that myth.
