James Paul YOUNG was a tanner and a farmer.  He owned a leather house in Vernon.  He was very
active on the School Board of the Vernon High School.  He was also a member of the Democratic
Executive Committee.  He was a Justice of the Peace in Fayette County, then Lamar County.  He
fought in the Civil War in the AL 26th Infantry, Co. F.
