* James William Thomas Abernathy was called Jim. He was a Corpral in Co. I, 47th
ALA, Inf. CSA. He enlisted April 18, 1862 at Loachapoka, AL. He was at Sharpsburg,
Fredericksburg, Suffolk, wounded at Chickamauga, present at Lookout Valley,
Knoxville, Wilderness, Hanover Junction and Gaines Mills per the Civil War
Database at Alabama Department of Archives and History. His war records show that
he was discharged as being sick/ a diabetic. Family history has it that he was
blind in his old age. He and is wife are buried at Macedonia Baptist Church Cem.
in Chambers County.
