Notes:
* They lived prior to the Civil War on Upper Pond Fork of the Little Coal River. Micajah served in the 187th Virginia Militia. War records describe him as 6 foot tall, light complexion, gray eyes and light hair. They two oldest sons were killed during the war. Micajah suffered latent effects from the war due to an attack of pneumonia and jaundice that lasted several months. He made an application filed January 23, 1880 for pension due to his diabilities. The American Civil War was the first major conflict to affect significantly the inhabitants of Boone Co. after its formation from Kanawha, Cabell, and Logan in 1847. Members of the White family living there at outbreak of hostilities asserted their allegiance to the United States by joining the Union forces- Most with the Eighth Regiment Infantry Volunteers that was orginized in the Great Kanawha Valley in the autimn of 1861 (later to become the Seventh Regiment West Virginia Cavalry of the U.S. Army). Micajah and four of his sons volunteered to serve. He joined the 187th Virginia Militia of West Virginia State Troops; enlisted in 1861 in Capt. Joseph H. Barker's Co. Micajah Goodwin White was Called "Goodwin" by all Who Knew him. He was a Miller By Trade.
