General Notes: Wife - Dolley PAYNE
==========================================================================================

   Dolley's son, John Payne Todd never found a career and went to debtor's prison in
1830. James and Dolley sold their land in Kentucky and mortgaged half of Montpelier to
pay his debts. After James died in 1736, Dolley lived most of her remaining life in
poverty.
   Henry Clay, at one of her parties, said "Every body loves Mrs Madison!" to which, she
replied, "Mr Clay, I love every body!"
   Dolley Madison set the standards by which the succeeding First Ladies managed the
Whitehouse and entertained guests. (She also served as First Lady for the widowed Thomas
Jefferson.)
