* Probate record for James C Brown in Brown Co Tx June 14, 1889

* Tax rolls 1881, JC Brown paid taxes on 160 acres, valued at $160, located in the Kerr Co School land. He paid taxes on 1 wagon/buggy & 15 horses/mules valued at $225. & 90 head of cattle valued at $900. 1881-1887 Brown rendered information for tax purposes on the 160 acres & a number of stock. 1888 the tax roll does not show the 160 acres. He had 50 horses/mules valued at $750. & 275 head of cattle valued at $1,572; he paid $18.45 of taxes. 1889-1893 MC Brown renders the info for taxes, which included stock but no land. The tax roll showed that JC Brown leased 556 acres from the Kerr Co school. There were no taxes paid on this land. The land was located near the 160 acres in Brown Co. Courthouse Records Jan 1889 JC Brown & CE Egger, partners sold 97 acres.
* 1920 Census Coke Co Tx Mrs MC Brown Surviving widow of James C Brown Deceased with respect represents that she resides in the County of Brown State of Texas and is the surviving widow of James C Brown, who died in the County of Brown Texas June 14 1884 and the deceased left surviving him four minor children to wit: Dona R Brown 11 years old, James R Brown 9 yrs old, Susan A Brown 6 yrs old and Mattie K Brown 4 yrs old. All of whom now reside with applicant .... ...... community Estate between applicant & her deceased husband James C Brown.
