GOIN Notes:
* According to family lore, W.T. and Sarah (Cannon) Goin moved to Tarrant Co., Texas after the Civil War. They took the family from Texas to Cleveland Co., Okla. ca. 1891-94 (receipt/ctf of purchase #536, Oklahoma Historical Society Library, OKC, land tract record). They moved to Okmulgee Co. about 1895 (Obituary for Arthur's brother Walter Goin, Abilene Reporter-News, June 9, 1968, p. 2A). Arthur and Bessie (Shaffer) Goin were among the founding families of East Side Methodist Church (later Butler Memorial Methodist Church). Arthur's identical twin was Oscar Goin.

SHAFFER Notes:
* Mary Bessie Shaffer walked from Indiana to Indian Territory when she was a teenager. "I walked every step of the way," she told a granddaughter—about eight hundred miles. Her father's wagons were too full for her to ride. In the 1880 census, her father was a wagon maker in Bluffton, Indiana. According to Goin family lore, he was prosperous, well-dressed, and aloof. In Indian Territory, he res Morris and perhaps ran a butter and egg business there. By 1900, he was a farmer in Moon twp, Cleveland Co., Oklahoma, where he lived with wife #3.

CHILD #1 Notes: They had 8 children. Charlie and Viola both died on the same day.

CHILD #2 Notes: Oscar was carried away by a tornado on an April 12, about 1901. His body was found far from their collapsed house.

CHILD #3 Notes: They had 2 daughters.

CHILD #4 Notes: They had 3 daughters.

CHILD #5 Notes: They had 3 children.

CHILD #6 Notes: Died of typhoid.

CHILD #7 Notes: She fell into their cistern and drowned.

CHILD #8 Notes: They had one child.

CHILD #9 Notes: They had 3 children.

CHILD #10 Notes: Jim served in World War II and later ran a gas station in Okmulgee. He had one child with either Betty or Dorothy (family sources differ on which).

CHILD #11 Notes: At one point during the Depression, Juanita was the only Goin child earning a paycheck; her job was clerking in the five-and-dime store. Leo served as Okmulgee's mayor 1950-53. They had 2 children. In later life, the Hassells res Arkansas and Oklahoma City.
