!HISTORY OF FAYETTE COUNTY, assorted pages sent by Clarence Sanderson,
1922 Drake Dr., Xenia, OH45385 937-372-0456Says James Sanderson was
from Kentucky and he moved to Fayette County in 1812, following an old
Indian trace when removing from Kentucky, settling on the Hite survey,
No. 1223, consisting of one thousand acres.(p. 250)Lists sons James,
Aleck, and Harvey.
!HISTORY OF FAYETTE COUNTY, OHIO (1881) states that James Sanderson was
born in Corke County, Ireland, ca 1762 and arrived in America in 1783.
He settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and married in the same year
Sarah Barbara Newman. He later moved to Kentucky and then to Ohio where
he eventually settled in Fayette County, Ohio.He settled on Survey
Number 1223 on Sugar Creek. He was a farmer and active in community
affairs. He died 30 Jan 1841, following his wife by three months. They
are buried in Coons, or Jefferson/Jasper Cemetery, Fayette County, Ohio.
!James Sanderson will adminstration. Will dated 17 Nov 1835; says he
died 1840; administered October 1845.Lists wife (Barbara), children
(Mary (William) Moorman, John R. Sanderson (dec'd), Alexander, James,
Mary (Jonathon) Wittey, Harvey, Henry, and grandchildren.
!An article sent from Clarence Sanderson says an Alexander Sanderson
settled someplace (probably Lancaster, PA) 1798.Could this be a brother
of James?
Phil and Kathy Campbell are researching James Sanderson line.He is
starting a newsletter on the Sanderson/Campbell lines.929 Cameron St.,

Kathy Smierciak (4827 Montcalm Court, Fort Wayne, IN46835-4478
keps1@aol.com)
says there is a James Sanderson, Sr. on the tax lists for
Adams County, OH, for 1806, 1807, 1808, 1809, and 1810.She also thinks
James may have had a brother named Alexander who died in 1805 and had a
widow named Margaret. This Alexander lived in Highland County, OH, which
is next to Adams and Clinton Counties. He supposedly emigrated from
Pennsylvania to Kentucky and then moved to Ross County (next to Fayette)
in 1801.This area became part of Highland County in 1807.He left five
children, the eldest being William.Another son was name J.C.
From Kathy Smierciak,KEPS1@aol.com
I have found mixed information about James Sanderson.Just starting
research to try and locate James Sanderson in PA and KY. He came to Adams
Co. OH and then to Fayette Co. OH. He may have had a brother, Alexander
Sanderson, who settled in Highland Co. OH, but died around 1801.
Alexander'sgrandson later gave historical info in "History of Ross and
Highland Counties" on page 443 that said Alexander came from Scotland and
settled first in PA, then KY, then came to Ross Co. OH where he soon died
and his will was the first one probated in that county. James Sanderson,
Sr. died about 1841. I have a copy of his will. His son, Alexander, died
in 1840 according to wife, Mary, on her pension application (war of
1812). There seems to be no probate record for this Alexander, nor for
his wife, Mary.
INFORMATION FROM MARLYN HOWARD WILT, famtrees@juno.com
He believes that James Sanderson came with a McKillip family from VA/NC
via KY, thence into OH.He spent 3 weeks in Ireland and is convinced he
did not come from County Cork, but sailed from County Cork.He believes
he was probably from County Cavan or near that region, a part of which is
now in Northern Ireland. He also says a Dr. Wm Sanderson 1825-1866 was a
Union Civil War surgeon in Iowa and Missouri. He died in Union County,
OH.He is a son of James Sanderson (a 2nd James) and Sarah Barbara(y)
Newman.
Have picture of his tombstone:James Sanderson, Senior, died Jan 30
1841.Aged about 79 years.

Karen Conley (klconley@webtv.net)
says (4/02) she's found James on the
tax lists in Boubon County, KY in the late 1700's and on the tax lists in
Adams County, OH in 1805, 1806, 1807, 1808, 1809, 1810.
NOTE FROM KAREN CONLEY(klconley@webtv.net)
While I can't be 100 percent certain that the James Sanderson on the tax
list in Bourbor County, KY, is our James Sanderson, I feel almost certain
that this is him, as living very close to him is William Moorman.
Supposedly, William Moorman married Mary Sanderson in KY, then they and
the Sandersons traveled north to Ohio.James Sanderson, Sr., is on the
tax lists in Adams County, OH, for the years 1805, 1806, 1807, 1808,
1809, 1810.All of William and Mary Moorman's children were born in
Adams County, including my ggg grandfather, Thomas Moorman, who stated in
his military record that he was born in Adams County, but shaved ten
years off his age in order to be able to enlist.
Karen Conley has also come across an Alexander Sanderson who died in Ross
County, OH, in 1805.Could be James' brother.
