1. He was born on 1849 or 1850. I also have 1850. It is 1850 on the TO
   Skjeldal chart that I have from GT Schjeldahl. It says 1849 in TWO places; on
   the 1900 US Census; and in Historie om udvandringen fra Voss. 1849 is correct!
2. He was confirmed on 9 Oct 1864. I finally have got the answers to the
   outstanding questions regarding: · Ragnhild Halldorsdotter (Glymme,
   Skjeldal) born 1787 or 1788 · Torstein Olavsson (Skjeldal) born 1849 or
   1850 Ragnhild was according to the church register born in 1787. Torstein
   Olavsson was according to church registers born Nov 3, 1849 and baptized Nov 11,
   1849. He was confirmed Oct 9, 1864 together with his brother Knut who was born
   two years earlier. Probably Knut had to go for a longer preparation for
   confirmation due to lack of knowledge. All the information above will be added

3. Immigrated: 6 Mar 1875, Big Canoe, Winneshiek, Iowa. T.O. left the port
   of Bergen and immigrated to the US 6 Mar 1875 on the ship "Adriatic". Landed in
   NY. Left there to go to Big Canoe, Iowa to his uncle, Claus K. Skjeldal and his
   brother Erick. Erick was estabilished in Highlandville Iowa.
4. AKA: was Skjeldal, Highlandville, Winneshiek, Iowa. T.O Skjeldal
   Americanized his name to Schjeldahl as he came to America. His brother Erick and
   His uncle both used the American spelling. The "T" of T.O. is an enigma.
   Torstein is the most common spelling. Cemeteries of North Dakota has his
   tombstone as Thorstien. The ship record has Torsten (Ship Record #1384,
   Passenger 117). He also is know as Thorsten in Voss Census (Voss Norway 1865
   Census).
5. Moved: 1878, Enger Township, Steele, Dakota Territory.Homesteaded in
   Enger township near Hatton ND.
6. He worked as a Farmer in 1878-1928 in Schjeldahl Farm - Enger twp,
   Steele, North Dakota. Farmed west of Portland near Little Forks Church.
7. He was naturalized as a US Citizen on 3 Apr 1883 in , Traill County,
   North Dakota. Schjeldahl, T O Sweden April 03, 1883 2nd Traill F-9 075.
   Note that Sweden is listed as the country. Norway was not independent of
   Sweden until 1905.

   years.

   "T.O. Schjeldahlwas born in Voss, Norway, November 3, 1849. He came to America
   in 1874 and to Portland in 1877. He homesteaded in Enger township. He married
   Martha Bjorgo in 1879. She died in 1889. In 1892 he married Thora Thorson who
   died in 1933. he died in 1928."

   1874 and to Portland in 1877. He homesteaded in Enger Township. He married
   Martha Bjoro (sic) in 1879. She died in 1889. In 1892 he married Thora Thorson
   who died in 1933. He died in 1928.
