Documentation:
* William Moses Sanders was from the large Scotch-Irish Sanders family who lived in Anson County on Mountain Creek, Pee Dee River which would later become Montgomery Co NC.
* He was born in 1774 in Anson, before it became Montgomery County.
* His father James Sr., received a land grant in Anson in the 1750's along with his brother Patrick and parents William and Susan Sanders. James Sr., William Moses father, had signed the Regulator's Petition with his brother Patrick, protesting taxes in Anson against farmers, etc. in the 1760's. For many years, Moses father James was Constable for Anson County. Patrick is a common Sanders name in my Sanders family line. So are James and William. In 1799, Wm. Moses' father, James Sanders, Sr., received a grant for 100 acres in Rutherford Co NC, so Wm Moses later lived on this land and raised his family. This portion of Rutherford became Cleveland Co. NC. However, by the early 1790's James and Patrick and their families had migrated out of Anson into Spartanburg Co. SC. They would later settle in Rutherford around 1811.
* Wm Moses was listed in 1810 Spartanburg Co SC as "Billy Sanders". He was listed in the 1820 through 1830 Rutherford Co. NC. census as Moses Sanders. He was named William Moses Sanders based on the family records of son James Wesley Sanders and others. One researcher stated his name was William Jefferson Moses Sanders. I have not found this in any record, but he named his children these names.
* His brother was Jeffreys or Jeffrey and William Moses also had a son Jefferson who was known as Jeffrey until his death listed in 1880 Mortality Schedule for Cleveland Co NC.
* Moses' nephew was Jeffrey Green Sanders, so Jeffrey is a common name in this family.
* Also, Moses son, James Wesley named a son William Moses. Many Sanders relatives lived in Spartanburg.
* Patrick Sanders Sr., Wm. Moses' uncle, migrated from Anson/Montgomery to Rutherford and on to Spartanburg.
* I do think a John Sanders in early Rutherford County records is also, possibly a son of James and brother to Moses. I have not proven this as fact.
* Greenberry states in his pedigree that his grandfather James Sanders was of Scottish descent and was from Montgomery Co. He states his father Moses was born in Montgomery Co NC. (Which would have been Anson during the time of his birth.) This supports early deeds and grants of Anson County NC.
* My great grandfather Green Berry was born in 1825 in Rutherford Co. Green Berry states in the 1880 census for Cleveland Co NC, both parents were born in NC.
* Many of Moses' children married and raised families in the part of Rutherford that later became Cleveland. All are listed as being born in NC along with their parents Moses and Priscilla (see attachments and records from tree).
* I have been in touch with descendants through the years. I found a Moses Sanders back in Montgomery Co Nc in 1838. He owed a debt to William A. Sanders. This would be just before he died. His son Greenberry stated that he was born in Montgomery and lived in various other counties, so possibly he went back to Montgomery to die. I have no proof this is my Moses Sanders.
* By 1850, Priscilla, his wife and his son Greenberry were living in Rutherford/Cleveland Co NC. near relatives. Priscilla would live with various relatives until her death in 1879.
* My father's sister, Myrtle Sanders Butler who lived to be 98, and was the great granddaughter of Wm. Moses Sanders, stated our Sanders line was also known as "Saunders". Many Sanders in Rutherford/Cleveland went by the Saunders name. She kept abreast of all the Sanders family genealogy and shared her knowledge with all the relatives.
* Greenberry Sanders and Martha Taylor were my great grandparents. Green Berry was a music teacher who taught in all the surrounding counties, a hymn writer and clerk of the court for Polk Co. for many years. He established one of the first schools in Polk Co on his property in the Green Creek Community, once Rutherford. My father and his twin brother were born on this same property May 18, 1915.
