* The cemetery in Silver City was originally located between 10th and 12th streets and
Santa Rita and West streets. In 1873 it was noted that the cemetery was in the path of the
water lines to the town and it was suggested that it be moved. It wasn’t until 1882 that
they started removing the residents of the original cemetery to its present location. It
was discovered that people had been burying their loved ones at the new location for some
time before it was designated as the city cemetery. The crude markers had long since
turned to dust making it impossible to know who is buried in many of the locations. Old
obituaries were checked to help in finding the names of persons that were buried there, as
indicated by the notation "unknown location".
