Documentation:
John LANHAM, Sr.:
* D.O.B.: This exact date is given by Oran Stroud Lanham, currently waiting for a source for that date Aug 2004, will supply as soon as I get it. In a deposition given 8 Jun 1725 states his age is 65; 26 Jun 1729 he states his age as 70; 27 Jul 1745/46 stating age 85 years, PGLR Book BB 1.
* D.O.D.: After depo of 27 Jul 1745/6 nothing more found on him.
* Place of Birth: possibly England due to the following info: John Lanham was transported to Maryland in Mar 1678 by Col. Benjamin Rozer on the ship Dover of London, Commander Capt. John Harris.
* Maryland Patent Libers, in Settlers of Maryland 1679-1700, 1701-1730, 1731-1750, by Peter Wilson Coldham.
* Marriage date: Marriage date, before 1689; CCLR Liber P, p 201;
* Cattle marks: John Lannum, son of John
* Marriage place; they lived in Charles Co., and in those days travel was limited, people usually married in the local church or home of a friend or relative.

* Children: [PGCR A.260]; Lanham, John; sons John, Richard, Thomas. William Lanham son of John Lanham [PGLR BB 1,p 231].

Dorothy SHAW:
* D.O.B.: The SHAW children were born in the years ranging from 1660-1685.
* D.O.D.: aft. May 1729 when John LANHAM, SR. and wife Dorothy conveyed to son Richard LANHAM, 95 acres of the tract called "OPENDOWN", which was OXMONTOWN. Both John LANHAM, SR., and wife Dorothy made their marks.
* PARENTAGE: Dorothy [LNU] is currently believed to be a BURCH, I have done research on the BURCHS and there is no DOROTHY BURCH. I believe that RALPH SHAW is the father of Dorothy [LNU] LANHAM. SOURCE: CCLR Liber C #2 p 223 19 Mar 1710/11; Articles of Agreement between RALPH SHAW, SR., and EDWARD MARLOW, SR. of Prince George's Co., planter, SHAW gives to MARLOW all stock of cattle and hogs, household goods, except 2 trunks, two chests and all that is in them; all grain, both English and Indian; to JOHN LANHAM and EDWARD MARLOW all grain now growing; to JOHN LANHAM 2 cows and calves; to MARLOW all rights to Negro and child; MARLOW to allow SHAW and ANN his wife a room to themselves for their natural life an 1, 200 lbs tobacco yearly and 50 gallons of cider and 4 gallons of rum, if rum not to be had then 100 gallons cider; to find them a horse to ride on when they have occasion; EDWARD MARLOW binds himself in amount of £60; JOHN LANHAM for £30; RANDALL GARLAND for £30; /s/ EDWARD MARLOW [mark], JOHN LANHAM [mark], RANDALL GARLAND [mark]; 19 Mar 1710/11; Confirmation of above agreement; /s/ RALPH SHAW, ANN SHAW [mark]; wit. Thomas Hunt [mark], John Speake. Now the pesons EDWARD MARLOW and RANDALL GARLAND, both married daughters of RALPH SHAW and his 1st wife, name unknown. Not the wife ANN mentioned in this agreement. So if EDWARD MARLOW who married MARY SHAW d/o RALPH SHAW and 1st wife; and RANDALL GARLAND who married ANN SHAW d/o RALPH SHAW and his 1st wife; then JOHN LANHAM married DOROTHY SHAW, d/o RALPH SHAW and his 1st wife.

RALPH SHAW:
* He was in the Charles Co., MD area in Jun 1672. Source: As RALPH SHAW, of Charles Co., planter, purchased a tract of land called New Exchange from George TAYLOR. Source:

Notes:
* John LANHAM: My Great Grandmother Lillian May LANHAM married my Great Grandfather Vivian M. MIDDLETON, about 1895, in Maryland. Lillian May LANHAM is a direct descendant of John LANHAM and Dorothy SHAW. Vivian M. MIDDLETON is a direct descendant of Robert MIDDLETON and Mary WHEELER of Prince George's Co., MD.
* Robert MIDDLETON, was transported into Maryland by Benjamin ROZER, prior to 16 Feb 1671. And this same Benjamin ROZER transported my ancestor John LANHAM to the Province of Maryland from London in Mar 1678. It is also interesting to see that the MIDDLETONS and the LANHAMS we not only neighbors, but they interacted with one another in their daily life. One case of a MIDDLETON posting bail for JOHN LANHAM.
Maryland State Archives Prince George's Co., March, 1699 Court. 418] Robert Brothers Plantiff: John Lennam Defendant Whereupon came John Midleton Junior into Court and offered himselfe to be Special baile for the Said John Lennam in the Plea aforesaid according to Law.
* John MIDDLETON, JR., is the s/o Robert MIDDLETON and Mary WHEELER.
* Another example of how close these two families were:
MARYLAND CALENDAR OF WILLS: Volume 7

To Thomas Middleton, Jr., ex., and hrs., "Stevens Hope" and "Norwich;" residue of estate.
Test: Joseph Hatton, Jr., Ebsworth Bayne, William Whithorne (Whitehorn). 21. 916.
* Thomas MIDDLETON, JR., is the s/o Thomas MIDDLETON, SR. and Penelope HATTON, and the grandson of Robert MIDDLETON and Mary WHEELER.
* I found the following, thought it was interesting, I'm not sure it pertains to John Lanham, Sr. of Prince George's Co., MD Abstracts of the Inventoris and Accounts of the Prerogative Court of Maryland, 1697-1700 [ibers 16,17,18,19, 19½A, 19½B], V.L.Skinner, Jr. Brookeville, MD., 10833, Sep 1992, p 24 Thomas Miles 18.126 A SM £158.17.6; Dec 1 1698 The amount of the inventory also included #2885 Payments to: CAPT. * and the following, is this John Lanham Sr., of Prince George's Co., MD?
