Johann Conrad was christened 27 December 1733, Evangelisch-Reformeirte, Pfalz, Böbingen. He arrived at Philadelphia on ship Britannia on 26 September 1764 with his father, Johannes. He later moved to Frederick County, MD. In December 1790 he purchased two tracts of land in Frederick County, MD: "Crumbaugh's Chance" (60 acres) and "Lock's Chance" (11 acres). Simon Crumbaugh filed the final accounting as administrator of Conrad Crumbaugh on 25 July 1808. Maryland German Church Records, Vol. 16 (FS Weiser) shows Conrad Crumbach and Margretha Sillimann were married at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on 22 November 1767 (in most records her surname is SEIDEMANN). The same source shows him in the following records of St. Peter's Lutheran Church (now Grace Lutheran Church) near Woodsboro: Sponsor at baptism of Anna Margreth, daughter of Philip and Maria Barbara Berger. She was born 23 March 1769 "towards evening" and baptized 4 May 1769. Sponsors: Conrad and Anna Margaretha Grumbach. Sponsor at baptism of Benedict, son of Benedict and Margreth Barthalomae, b. 11 Jan. 1785, bp. 26 December 1785. Sponsors: Conrad and Margreth Krombach. Sponsor at baptism of Margreth, dau. of Peter and Catharina Schmid, b. 29 Jan. 1791, bp. 9 Feb 1791. Sponsors: Conrad and Margareth Krombach. The same source shows him in the following records of Glade Reformed Church: Sponsor at baptism of Daniel, son of Conrad and Anna Barbara Gamber, b. (not given), bp. 22 July 1773. Sponsors: Conrad and Margaretha Krumbach. Much of the information on the early American generations of this family is from "Notes Of Crumbaugh Family History, Compiled by Eva Crumbaugh Grizzelle, LeRoy, Illinois, May 20, 1919 (Gathered Throughout Several Years)" which is in the possession of the J.T. & E.J. Crumbaugh Memorial Library, LeRoy, Illinois. It is possible that Johann Conrad and Anna Margaretha had a son Peter, who would have been born between 1768 and 1772. Ms. Grizzelle mentioned him, but had no information other than his name. Maryland German Church Records, Vol 16 (compiled by Frederick S. Weiser and which includes records of St. Peter's Lutheran Church (later Grace Lutheran), Glade Reformed Church and Mount Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church) does not show a baptism for Peter at St. Peter's but there appears to be a gap in the baptismal records from 24 September 1769 to 5 April 1771. A letter received by Paul Frost from Alice Sultz of Fremont, Ohio and Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, dated July 8, 2003, included a photocopy of pages from a Crumbaugh Family Bible, showing family births - showing Peter, born September 15, 1770. Unfortunately, his parents aren't noted in the record, since it only shows him, his wife and their children. This Peter married Mary Hanagin (or Flanagin) on 13 October 1795, died 3 January 1812 at Union Township, Clermont County, Ohio and was buried at Old Olive Branch Cemetery in the same township. At this point, more research needs to be done to definitely place Ms. Sultz' Peter Crumbaugh as this son. Accordingly, he is not included in this family group record. Regarding Jacob CRUMBAUGH (born 1777), his death date is from his tomb stone in the Frankfort, KY cemetery. His wife, Louisa, is shown as SCHNEIDER in most records (including by Ms. Grizzelle) but her death record from Franklin County, KY, dated November 15, 1852 lists her as FLOURNOY. It is believed this FLOURNOY reference is an error, in part because most records indicate SCHNEIDER but also because the FLOURNOY family is well documented and no Louisa has been found who would fit.
